MADRID, May 11. /TASS/. The West’s economic sanctions against Russia have very negative repercussions globally and have been causing harm to people, Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez said in an interview published on Wednesday by El Diario.
"These are sanctions that have very negative repercussions around the world," he told the Spanish newspaper. "We are not part of it," Fernandez said. He said he wanted "to talk to Europe and raise Latin America’s concern over the problems" arising from the situation around Ukraine. "Food and energy security is at stake in Latin America, in Central America and in the Caribbean [countries]," he added.
"My purpose is to draw Europe’s attention to all this damage," Fernandez said. "And I suggest we do something because this is unforgivable after the pandemic," he said. "All these economic sanctions do people more harm, and the damage is immensely greater for the countries in the periphery. This is morally indecent."
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. The US, the EU and the UK, as well as a number of other countries, responded with sanctions on Russian individuals and entities.
