MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. Tehran is open to Moscow serving as a mediator to resolve the conflict surrounding Iran, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali told TASS in an interview.
"We are very familiar with the Russian government’s goodwill, and we know that if this country is appointed as a mediator, it will make every effort to account for the Islamic republic’s interests. However, to my knowledge, due to a lack of will on the aggressor’s part, the issue of mediation and of designating a mediating country has not yet been resolved," the diplomat noted.
First, he emphasized, the purpose of negotiations needs to be determined, and only then can a mediator be appointed. "Our principled position is that a mere ceasefire halting aggression without guarantees against recurrence would be insufficient. This is just one of our conditions," the diplomat said.
