Post-Soviet security bloc to continue military drills for collective forces’ deployment

The conference paid special attention to information security, military and military-technical cooperation

MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. The member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will continue holding military drills for deploying the organization’s collective forces, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said on Tuesday.

"We agreed on continuing the practice of military exercises to master new forms and methods of employing collective forces," Patrushev said after a meeting of the heads of the CSTO security councils held via a video conference.

The conference paid special attention to information security, military and military-technical cooperation. The participants in the meeting stated that "the collective forces that have been established possess sufficient potential today for accomplishing assigned missions."

The head of Russia’s Security Council noted that the participants in the meeting also discussed the plans of outfitting the CSTO collective forces with advanced armament, military hardware, control and communications systems.

"We analyzed the prospects of the CSTO peacekeeping activity with an emphasis on the possibility of the CSTO forces’ participation in peacekeeping operations under the UN aegis," the secretary of Russia’s Security Council added.
