MOSCOW, February 29. /TASS/. The Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Meteor-M No. 2-4 weather satellite and 18 smaller satellites has blasted off from the Vostochny spaceport, according to a Roscosmos broadcast.
The booster carrying the satellites will separate from the third stage of the launch vehicle in about nine minutes. The Meteor-M No. 2-4 satellite, the main payload of the mission, is scheduled to be delivered into the designated orbit within an hour after the launch.
A spokesperson for the Russian private company Sputniks told TASS that 17 satellites made by the company would also be put into orbit. Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Issa Zarepour stated on Wednesday that the Russian carrier rocket would launch Iran’s Pars 1 satellite.
The Meteor-M satellite is designed to explore the Earth's natural resources, monitor the helio-geophysical situation in near-Earth space and receive information from automatic data collection measurement platforms. The spacecraft is also equipped with the tools of the COSPAS-SARSAT search and rescue system.
