DUBAI, March 21. /TASS/. Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has warned the United States that Iran will respond with a "heavy slap in the face" to anyone who harms the Iranian people.
"They [the Americans] should understand that we never started a conflict, but anyone who harms [Iran] will be met with a heavy slap in the face," Khamenei said in an address on the first day of the Iranian New Year, 1404. It was broadcast on the official website of the Supreme Leader.
According to Khamenei, US and European politicians are seriously mistaken when they call resistance in the region Iran's proxy forces, since all countries that oppose Israel's aggression against the Palestinians have their own stance. "Tehran does not need a proxy," Khamenei added.
The rebel Yemeni Ansar Allah movement is not an Iranian proxy force, either.
"The people of Yemen have their own agenda. The countries that are part of the resistance forces in the region also have their own goals," he said.
On March 17, US President Donald Trump stated that Iran was allegedly behind the attacks by the rebel Yemeni movement Ansar Allah, adding that in the event of new attacks, the US army would not limit their strikes to the rebels.
Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani said in a letter to the Chairman of the UN Security Council and its Secretary General that Tehran condemns Washington's bellicose rhetoric and categorically rejects Trump's statements about Iran's involvement in the Houthi attacks.
