Russian forces gradually advancing towards Seversk in Donbass, LPR militia says

Seversk was part of the Ukrainian army’s continuous Artyomovsk-Soledar-Seversk defensive line

MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. Russian forces are gradually advancing towards Seversk in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) but Artyomovsk (called Bakhmut in Ukraine) remains the focus of their offensive, Vitaly Kiselyov, military-political expert, Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) colonel, said on Wednesday.

"Our units are making some advance to Seversk but are not moving rapidly in that area. There is some advance there but it is minimal as the basic objective is Artyomovsk," he said in a live broadcast on the Soloviev Live TV Channel.

Seversk was part of the Ukrainian army’s continuous Artyomovsk-Soledar-Seversk defensive line. On January 12, Russian troops liberated Soledar from the Ukrainian military. Fierce battles are currently ranging for Artyomovsk. Acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin earlier said that Russian forces were fighting to cut off the Ukrainian battlegroup entrenched in the city from supply routes and envelop it in a pincer movement.
