MOSCOW, May 31. /TASS/. Valentin Yumashev has quitted as unsalaried Russian presidential adviser, Lyudmila Telen, deputy executive director of Yeltsin Center, which Yumashev is a board member of, told TASS on Monday.
"It was his initiative. I know it from him," she said.
His withdrawal from the post was announced Reuters earlier in the day.
In 1996, Yumashev was a member of Boris Yeltsin’s election headquarters during his second election campaign. In August 1996, he was appointed presidential adviser on relations with the mass media. From March 1997 to December 1998, Yumashev was chief of staff of the Russian presidential executive office. In late 1998, he was appointed unsalaried presidential adviser to continue as such under President Vladimir Putin. He was reappointed to this post after the presidential elections in 2018.
