Putin declares 2025 year of defender of Fatherland

The Russian president made the announcement at a meeting of the State Council

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that 2025 will be the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in Russia.

He made the announcement at a meeting of the State Council, after mentioning that 2025 will mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

"In this context, I propose to declare 2025 the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in honor of the participants of the special military operation and in memory of the feats of all our ancestors, who fought in various periods of history for the Motherland. In glory of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers who crushed Nazism," Putin said.

Every year since 2007, the president issues a decree to dedicate the next year to a certain theme to draw to it more public attention. To kick off the tradition, 2008 was declared the Year of the Family. 2022 was the Year of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia, while 2023 was the Year of the Teacher and Mentor. The year 2024, like 2008, was the Year of the Family.
