BANGKOK, March 28. /TASS/. The historic Mandalay Palace, located in the eponymous city in Myanmar, was partially damaged by a powerful earthquake, the Myanmar Now portal reported.
The palace, built in the middle of the 19th century, is one of the key symbols of Mandalay and a major tourist attraction.
According to the Chinese Seismological Administration, the earthquake’s magnitude was 7.9, while the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded it as 7.7. It was followed by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake.
The tremors were felt 33 km southwest of Mandalay, home to approximately 1.2 million people. The epicenter was at a depth of 10 km.
