Witnesses confirm involvement of detained suspect in Russian general’s assassination

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Investigators have obtained testimony from eyewitnesses and affected persons indicating the involvement of Uzbek national named Akhmadzhon Kurbonov in the assassination of Chief of Russia’s Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Troops Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov and his aide Ilya Polikarpov.

"The sufficiency of information about the crime and Kurbonov’s involvement is confirmed by testimony from the affected persons and eyewitnesses, crime scene examination, study of material evidence and documents, and other evidence as a whole," according to case files obtained by TASS.

The documents seen by TASS reveal that Kurbonov is accused of particularly grave crimes punishable with life imprisonment.

Kurbonov was detained on Wednesday morning. Later that day, he was accused of committing an act of terror that entailed death of a person; illegal acquisition of explosives by a group of persons; and illegal manufacture of an explosive device by an organized group.
