Ukraine increases gas imports from Hungary, Slovakia amid poor biomethane exports to EU

Ukraine exported 67,000 cubic meters of biomethane, which is 208 times less than the daily import

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Ukraine is consistently increasing gas imports from Hungary and Slovakia, the Strana publication reported with reference to the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine.

According to its data, 10.9 mln cubic meters of gas were imported on February 6, and today imports already totaled 14.1 mln cubic meters of gas. Earlier today, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported on the export of biomethane to the European Union. Ukraine exported 67,000 cubic meters of biomethane, which is 208 times less than the daily import.

On February 5, the country's Energy Minister German Galushchenko said that Ukraine needs to import at least 1 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of this year to get through this winter and prepare for the next one.

Galushchenko named problems with gas production after the Russian strikes as one of the reasons for the need for imports. In addition, after the cessation of Russian gas transit, the need for industrial gas to maintain pressure in the transit pipe has doubled.
