The situation in the zone of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was the focus of a telephone conversation between Russian presidential envoy for the Middle East and African countries as well as Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and HAMAS official Moussa Abu Marzouk, the Russian foreign ministry said on Friday.

"The HAMAS official shared his assessment of the escalated situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone," it said.

Moscow reiterated its position "in favor of de-escalating tensions and ending violence, as well as the soonest beginning of the negotiating process in the interests of a fair settlement of the Palestinian problem in line with the United Nations and its Security Council resolutions," the ministry added.
