Ukraine does not consider an option for Christmas ceasefire — Foreign Ministry

Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban proposed a ceasefire and a major exchange of POWs between Russia and Ukraine during Christmas in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Ukraine does not see any realistic options for a Christmas ceasefire, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Georgy Tikhiy said.

"There is no real Christmas ceasefire on the table," he claimed during a briefing, livestreamed on social media. "There are not realistic proposals on the table."

Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban proposed a ceasefire and a major exchange of POWs between Russia and Ukraine during Christmas in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 11. Speaking during the December 19 press-conference, Putin said about Orban’s initiative and noted that Russia agreed to "events of this kind" three times, including on navigation in the Black Sea and the energy infrastructure. He added that he did not reject the proposal on a ceasefire and the exchange of POWs, while Vladimir Zelensky rejected it.

On December 20, Orban said that he will not react to Zelensky’s provocative remarks regarding the Christmas ceasefire and expressed his hope that Kiev will reconsider its position and agrees to sign such a treaty by Orthodox Christmas, celebrated on January 7.
