NEW YORK, December 13. /TASS/. The administration of US President Joe Biden intends to ramp up the pace of arms deliveries to Ukraine in order to transfer "massive quantities of weapons" to Kiev before Donald Trump's inauguration, CNN reported, citing sources in the administration of the outgoing US president.
According to one of the TV channel's sources, the US will supply Ukraine with "hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds, thousands of rockets, hundreds of armored vehicles, and other critical capabilities" by mid-January. However, this means not a new aid package, but rather the previously planned deliveries, which Washington wants to transfer to Kiev before Biden leaves office.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has been entrusted with the coordination of this work.
According to the sources, Ukraine's major problem is still a shortage of manpower, rather than armaments. "Ukraine is not currently mobilizing or training enough soldiers to staff its front-line units," one of the sources stated.
The TV channel notes that the actions of the US administration stand in strong contrast to the position of President-elect Trump. Thus, in an interview with Time magazine published on Thursday, the future White House host criticized Biden's decision to strike Russia with US-made missiles.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that the supply of new weapons to Ukraine will not alter the frontline situation, but only lead to a prolongation of the conflict.
