WASHINGTON, March 4. /TASS/. The US House of Representatives cancelled a session scheduled for March 4 after receiving a warning from federal police about a potential plot on the Capitol, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
Plans for the Senate meeting remain in effect.
Earlier, US Capitol Police said that it had received intelligence that a militia group was apparently plotting to breach the Capitol complex.
On January 6, radical pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Building in Washington DC to stop lawmakers from officially certifying the results of the November presidential election in a last-ditch attempt to prevent Democrat Joe Biden from becoming the new president. The police shot a female protester during the unrest. In addition, three others lost their lives and the causes of their deaths were qualified as medical emergencies. A Capitol police officer also died during the event.
Following the turmoil, metal barriers were installed around the Capitol complex, which is now protected by the US National Guard troops.
Concerns over the March 4 session stem from the fact that this day was the presidential inauguration day until 1933. Some speculated that dissenters over the election outcome may gather near the Capitol once again on that day.
