Slovakia sees Russia’s readiness for peace, ready to host talks — Fico’s party

MOSCOW, January 1. /TASS/. The Slovak authorities see Russian President Vladimir Putin's readiness for peace talks on Ukraine and are ready to provide a platform for such negotiations, Katarina Roth-Nevedalova, a member of the European Parliament and head of the international department of Prime Minister Robert Fico's party Direction - Social Democracy, has told TASS.

"I regard this as a positive sign and Russia's readiness for a ceasefire, the start of negotiations and search for a path to peace. We can only support this. I am also certain that Slovakia is ready to facilitate the process and help put an end to the Ukrainian conflict," she said, commenting on the Russian leader's statements following Bratislava's offer to serve as a platform for talks on Ukraine. "We have always called for negotiations and a peace process as a means to end the conflict. We believe that the EU should have acted as a mediator from the very beginning."

On December 26, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico told him during a meeting in Moscow that his country would be glad to host negotiators. Russia, Putin said, is not against Slovakia becoming a platform for talks on Ukraine.
