European parliament approves Germany’s Ursula von der Leyen for EU Commission head

The German defense minister needed 374 votes, she recieved 383

PARIS, July 16./TASS/. Germany’s Ursula von der Leyen secured the backing of the European parliament on Tuesday to be elected president of the EU Commission.

Under the results that have been made public, she was confirmed by a margin of 383 votes to 327. Twenty-two MEPs abstained. The German defense minister needed 374 votes to be approved.
