US takes responsibility for Palestinian deaths by vetoing UNSC resolution — Russian envoy

Vasily Nebenzya noted that Russia has no doubt that "the Israelis themselves are also interested in ending the spiral of violence"

UNITED NATIONS, November 20. /TASS/. The United States has signed its full responsibility for the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians by exercising its veto right and blocking the Middle East resolution of the ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said.

"I address my American colleagues. Today you have assumed your full responsibility for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent citizens, the deprivation of refugees, the suffering of hostages and illegally detained Palestinians," he said. "The cold-blooded and cynical obstruction by the United States of a simple demand of the Security Council - to save human lives - is an unconscionable and inhumane act," the diplomat emphasized.

Nebenzya noted that Russia has no doubt that "the Israelis themselves are also interested in ending the spiral of violence."

Earlier, the United States blocked a draft resolution prepared by the ten non-permanent members of the Security Council calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. This is the fifth time that Washington has blocked resolutions providing for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip since tensions escalated in the Middle East last October. The United States has also opposed Palestine's admission as a full member of the UN.
