Russia warns Canada of retaliation for hostile actions, accuses Ottawa of provocations

"The Canadian authorities should exercise caution and refrain from harmful steps that could escalate confrontation with Russia," the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Russia has warned the Canadian side that any hostile actions by Ottawa will prompt a strong response from Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It reported that on November 8, the deputy head of the Canadian diplomatic mission in Moscow was summoned to the ministry and "presented with an official note regarding baseless accusations of allegedly planned 'Russian sabotage' against NATO countries, involving the mailing of explosives in postal correspondence, including to Canadian addresses."

"The Canadian side has been informed that any hostile actions will not go unanswered. The Canadian authorities should exercise caution and refrain from harmful steps that could escalate confrontation with Russia," the ministry emphasized.

The department also noted that the rumors being spread by Canada, at the instigation of the US, about alleged Russian sabotage preparations against NATO countries point to the likely setup of a serious anti-Russian provocation. "We emphasized that responsibility for this, if it is carried out, for example, ‘under a foreign flag,’ will fall entirely on those countries, including Canada, that are making unfounded accusations against Russia," the ministry added.
