BUENOS AIRES, November 20. /TASS/. Russia hopes that Argentina will remain adherent to multipolarity after the election of Javier Milei as the new head of state, and the cooperation between Moscow and Buenos Aires will strengthen, Russian Ambassador to the republic Dmitry Feoktistov said Sunday.
"The future administration has a big work ahead on overcoming the social and economic problems, on strengthening the unity of the society, on increasing the role and weight of Argentina in international affairs. We expect that the course on adherence to multipolarity, independent foreign policy and firm protection of national interests will receive further development," he noted.
Feoktistov also expressed his hope for "augmentation of friendship, trust and cooperation between Russia and Argentina in the spirit of the comprehensive strategic partnership that binds the two states."
"Regadless of the political conjuncture, we are ready to continue our efforts on development of relations in all areas, to active cooperation on multilateral platforms in the interest of a fair world order," the diplomat added.
On Sunday, Milei won the second round of presidential elections in Argentina. The politician advocates minimal state interference, wants to dismiss the Central Bank and proposes to replace the national currency with the dollar.
He repeatedly stated that he has no intention to promote the relations with Brazil, China and Russia due to his disagreement with the policies of these states, but will not prevent businesses from dealing with them; he considers Israel and the US Argentina’s priority allies. According to Milei’s Foreign Policy Advisor Diana Mondino, the Freedom Advances alliance currently sees no point in Argentia’s participation in the BRICS, where the country was admitted to after the August summit.
