ASTANA, February 16. /TASS/. Kazakhstan is for establishment of cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the European Union (EU), the country’s Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov said on Monday.
"This is how our president sees it, and Kazakhstan will follow this line consistently," the foreign minister told the parliament, adding the idea of making "bridges" between the EU and the EEU was launched during the process of settling the conflict in Ukraine’s south-east.
The initiative, he said, means a major layer of political and economic problems.
"This is a new, absolutely important geopolitical initiative. We are happy such significant political leaders like Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel have been supporting the initiative," he said.
As the Normandy Quartet (Germany, Russia, France, and Ukraine) summit was over last week, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry expressed hope "the achieved level of trust will favour preconditions and terms for establishing a trustworthy dialogue and mutually advantageous cooperation between the EEU and EU."
