MOSCOW, November 15. /TASS/. The Western elites advocating for the continuation of the conflict over Ukraine are effectively steering the situation toward a World War III scenario, said Viktor Medvedchuk, former leader of the banned "Opposition Platform - For Life" party in Ukraine, who now leads the "Another Ukraine" movement.
"Today, it is abundantly clear that the incompetence, shortsightedness, and madness of the Western political elite are pushing the world toward a war that will ultimately cost the collective West the most. Of course, not all politicians are falling for this reckless plan, but the general sentiment makes the Western establishment resemble a collective Hitler, obsessed with his own greatness," Medvedchuk wrote in his column on the Smotrim media platform.
He added that there was no unified position in the West regarding the situation in Ukraine. After Donald Trump won the US presidential election, some Western politicians began making statements that they would continue supporting Ukraine no matter the cost, Medvedchuk emphasized. "This means that even though Trump had not yet taken office, they were already trying to intimidate him. And who is doing that? Not Moscow, Beijing, or Pyongyang, but NATO and Paris. What is that if not the theater of the absurd?" Medvedchuk noted.
The politician also pointed to statements by Friedrich Merz, a candidate for German chancellor representing the conservative Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria, who expressed his readiness to send Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine. In this context, Medvedev quoted Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, who said that after Trump’s election victory, the goal of certain European leaders was "to push the conflict with Russia to the point of no return."
According to Medvedchuk, the reckless behavior of these Western leaders has brought the world dangerously close to World War III, and it is crucial to unite reasonable political forces to prevent such a scenario.
