Central banks of Iran and Russia have completed the first stage of integration of Iran’s Shetab and Russia’s Mir payment systems, with cash withdrawal in rubles from Iranian cards on Russia’s territory having become available for citizens of the Islamic republic, Mostafa Ghamari Vafa, the head of public relations for the Central Bank of Iran, wrote on the X social network.
Ghamari Vafa posted a video showing the process of cash withdrawal from an Iranian card of the Shetab payment system using a phone with the NFC technology from VTB’s ATM on his page. "Iran’s payment system (Shetab) joining Russia’s payment system (Mir)," he wrote.
Meanwhile, the official ceremony to launch the first stage of the project on integration of payment systems has been held in Teheran in the presence of the head of Iran's Central Bank Mohammad Reza Farzin and the republic’s Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali. The ceremony was broadcast by the SNN TV channel. "With the implementation of this project we are making a big step in the direction of de-dollarization and easing of mutual payments between the two countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia," Farzin said. The whole project is divided into three stages, with the second stage completed Russian tourists will be able to withdraw cash in ATMs on Iranian territory using Mir cards, he added.
