Uzbekistan to be always Russia’s reliable ally — Uzbek foreign minister

According to Bakhtiyor Saidov, the presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan set the tone for bilateral relations

SAMARKAND /Uzbekistan/, April 23. /TASS/. Uzbekistan has always been and will be Russia's closest partner and reliable ally, Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov said on Wednesday at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

"Today, Uzbek-Russian relations are not subject to the influence of time and circumstance. Uzbekistan has always been and will always be the closest partner and reliable ally of the Russian Federation," Saidov stated.

According to him, the presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan set the tone for bilateral relations.

"[They] demonstrate by personal example how in today's complicated world one should cherish friendship and develop long-term cooperation," the top Uzbek diplomat added.

Lavrov is currently in Samarkand on a two-day official visit to Uzbekistan. On Wednesday, Russia’s top diplomat is scheduled to meet with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and hold substantive talks with Uzbek Foreign Minister Saidov. The agenda of the visit includes discussions on bilateral relations, Eurasian integration and preparations for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
