Several foreign banks negotiating sale of Russian subsidiaries, says deputy minister

Alexey Moiseev did not reveal any of the banks in question though

MOSCOW, November 16. /TASS/. Several foreign banks are negotiating the sale of Russian subsidiaries, Deputy Finance Minister Alexey Moiseev told reporters on Wednesday.

"There are a number of them, the presidential administration occasionally addresses us or the Central Bank for our position. There are a few of them," he said when asked whether any foreign banks were negotiating the sale of their bank assets in Russia.

Moiseev did not reveal any of the banks in question though.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has banned transactions with shares of foreigners from hostile countries in Russian strategic enterprises, fuel and energy companies as well as banks until the end of 2022. This applies to transactions that directly or indirectly result in a change in the rights of ownership, use or disposal of securities, shares in the authorized capital of Russian legal entities, rights and obligations in production sharing agreements, joint venture agreements or other documents on the basis of which investment projects are implemented in Russia. The decree to that effect can be extended an unlimited number of times.

On October 26, the Russian president approved a list of Russian credit organizations subject to a ban on transactions with stakes and shares, as well as with contributions to the equity capital unless a special permission is granted for such transactions.

The Bank of Russia said earlier that each case on the issue of the sale of assets of foreign banks would be considered individually.
