Russian troops ensure safe rotation of IAEA observers at Zaporozhye nuke plant — top brass

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military command attempted to endanger the life and safety of IAE experts and disrupt their rotation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the Russian Defense Ministry said

MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. Russian troops and the National Guard ensured the safe rotation of the mission of observers from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the Defense Ministry of Russia reported on Tuesday.

"The Russian Armed Forces jointly with units of the National Guard ensured the next safe rotation of the mission of observers from the International Atomic Energy Agency at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. A ceasefire strictly observed by all Russian servicemen was declared from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Moscow time along the entire route of travel from the designated place of transit - the destroyed bridge near the settlement of Kamenskoye in the Zaporozhye Region to ensure the safety of IAEA observers," the ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military command attempted to endanger the life and safety of IAE experts and disrupt their rotation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the ministry said.

"Before the movement began, Russian army engineers surveyed the terrain for the presence of unexploded Ukrainian ordnance. On the eve of the next rotation of IAEA observers at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the Ukrainian armed forces heavily shelled the roadway section, along which the mission travels to the station’s territory. The bombardment severely damaged the roadway. By its actions, the Ukrainian military command attempted to endanger the life and safety of experts and disrupt their rotation," the ministry said.

Russian troops ensured the safe movement of the column through the damaged section of the roadway and the delivery of experts to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, it said.

"Four mission inspectors have arrived at the station. Their goals are to monitor and assess the safety of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. IAEA experts have been present at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant since September 1, 2022 after the first visit by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to the station," the ministry said.

The Zaporozhye NPP is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
