Families of Hostages in Gaza urge Israeli authorities to resume negotiations

According to relatives of the captives, the decision to intensify military action against Hamas in Gaza is a complete miscalculation since "military pressure puts both hostages and soldiers at greater risk"

TEL AVIV, March 18. /TASS/. Families of Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip have condemned the decision of Israeli authorities to restart attacks on the enclave and demanded a return to negotiations with the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.

"The greatest fear of the families, of the hostages, and of Israeli citizens has come true. The Israeli government has abandoned the lives of the hostages. We are shocked, outraged, and terrified by the deliberate collapse of the process of bringing back our loved ones from the horrific Hamas captivity," the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a civil, volunteer-based organization, said in a statement.

According to relatives of the captives, the decision to intensify military action against Hamas in Gaza is a complete miscalculation since "military pressure puts both hostages and soldiers at greater risk." "The ceasefire must be reinstated. Many lives are at stake. We call on US President Donald Trump to continue his efforts, as he has done so far, to secure the release of all hostages. The government of Israel, the families of the abducted, demand answers. Why are you not pursuing negotiations? Why have you withdrawn from an agreement that could have brought everyone home? There will be no security, no victory, and no justice until the last hostage returns home," the organization said.

On March 18, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported extensive strikes on Hamas strongholds in the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that Israel had relaunched military operations in Gaza after Hamas rejected the US proposals put forward by mediators and US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff. The office stated that the Israeli military had resumed strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza to secure the hostages' release and that the army would intensify its campaign in the enclave.
