Chinese authorities expect de-escalation in Ukrainian conflict, diplomat says

The diplomat specified that China expected countries to respect each other’s sovereignty in accordance with United Nations principles

BEIJING, October 10. /TASS/. The Chinese authorities have taken note of reports about explosions in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev and hope for a de-escalation of the conflict, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday.

"We have taken note of it (explosions in Kiev - TASS). China hopes that tensions will start to ease as soon as possible," she said in response to a question from a Western reporter.

According to the Chinese diplomat, Beijing’s position on the Ukrainian conflict remains unchanged. "There is a need to support all efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the situation," Mao Ning pointed out. "We hope that the interested parties will be able to resolve the issue through talks," she added.

The diplomat specified that China expected countries to respect each other’s sovereignty in accordance with United Nations principles. "China is ready to continue playing a constructive role in resolving the situation," Mao Ning concluded.
