Hainan launches service app for filmmakers

The app aims to boost development of film and TV industry in southern Chinese province

SANYA /China/, December 8. /TASS/. Authorities of the southern Chinese province of Hainan have launched a smartphone service application called Hainan Pai - Pai Hainan, which is expected to become a useful guide for film lovers and professionals of the film industry. The official launch ceremony was held at the 6th Hainan International Film Festival (HIFF).

The app was created by the Publicity Department of CPC Hainan Provincial Committee in cooperation with the provincial film administration. It provides details on the free trade port's film development strategy. There's also an option that uses cloud technology to provide a bird's eye view of the island's scenery in an interactive format.

The program also has a database of information on actors. Chen Jiyang, deputy head of the propaganda department of the Hainan Party Committee, and Guo Zhimin, head of the Hainan Daily newspaper and head of the Hainan Broadcasting Group, attended the launch ceremony in the resort city of Sanya.

The main purpose of the app is to provide a range of services for filmmakers. It is expected to promote the development of Hainan's film and television industry.

HIFF is recognized as one of the four major film festivals in the People's Republic of China, and will be held for the first time in December 2018. It has hosted world-renowned actors and directors such as Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp and Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The 2024 Hainan Film Festival themed "From Oceans, With Visions" is held from December 4 to 10, 2023.
