The Russian foreign minister added that the selection of feature films and documentaries dedicated to pivotal moments in Russia’s history will enable viewers to engage with the heroic and dramatic events of our nation’s past

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. The Russia Abroad International Film Festival unites Russian compatriots around the world and makes it possible to establish a connection between the past and the present, uniting different generations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his greetings to the participants of the 18th Russia Abroad festival.

"For many years, this creative event has made a significant contribution to the promotion of Russian culture and the preservation of historical memory. It serves as a bridge across time and generations, uniting our compatriots and friends around the globe," the minister said.

The foreign minister added that the selection of feature films and documentaries dedicated to pivotal moments in Russia’s history will enable viewers to engage with the heroic and dramatic events of our nation’s past and learn more about the legacy of its renowned figures.

"I would particularly like to highlight that films by both Russian and foreign filmmakers, focusing on the special military operation, will be showcased as part of the non-competitive programme," Lavrov said.

The Russia Abroad film festival was established in 2007 by the Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russia Abroad and the Russian Way film studio. Works of Russian and foreign filmmakers, dedicated to the comprehension of Russia’s history in the 20th century and telling the story of the heritage of Russia abroad and the life of the compatriots are being annually presented at this festival. The main prize is being awarded in two nominations: best feature film and best documentary film.
