MOSCOW, March 24. /TASS/. The motorized infantry brigade of the Southern Military District stationed in Chechnya has launched field exercises at the Sernovodsky range in Russia’s Stavropol region, the district’s press service told TASS on Tuesday.
The maneuvers involve more than 500 troops and about 40 armored personnel carriers, self-propelled artillery weapons, anti-aircraft gun and missile systems and tanks.
"The training day during the field exercise lasts 10 hours, with up to 50% of drills held at night. All the personnel of the force are contract servicemen," the press service said.
The field exercise will continue until the end of April. Within a month, the military personnel of the mechanised infantry and tank units will have firing exercises using all types of standard weapons and practise the skills of driving combat vehicles, the press service said.
At the final stage of the exercise the units will conduct battalion tactical maneuvers with live firing from weapons of the BTR-82AM armored personnel carriers, of T-72B3 tanks and small arms.
