Lavrov discusses security architecture with ASEAN ambassadors — FM

MOSCOW, October 7. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and ambassadors, the members of the ASEAN Moscow committee (the Association of Southeast Asian Countries), discussed opportunities for cooperation in shaping the architecture of equal and indivisible security and sustainable development in the Asia Pacific Region at a meeting on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The preparations for the 20th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between Russia and ASEAN were on the table of discussions," the ministry said in a statement. "Joint determination to hold major events was accentuated, including the summit destined to launch a new stage in our relations with the ten [nations]."

"The promotion of a political dialogue, coordination of efforts to shape the architecture of equal and indivisible security and sustainable development in the Asia Pacific Region along with practical interaction in such priority spheres as trade, investments, energy, infrastructure correlation, science, technology and in humanitarian contacts were in the focus of the talks," the ministry said noting that "[the diplomats] accentuated that the programme of events within the reciprocal Year of Culture of Russia and ASEAN due to be held in 2016 should be completed as soon as possible."

Along with this, the sides exchanged opinion on topical global and regional issues, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
