Current generation of Russians assigned honorary mission to defend Motherland — Putin

"We are fighting for the Motherland and we will do everything to pass it on to future generations, our children and grandchildren," the head of state stressed

MOSCOW, February 23. /TASS/. The current generation of Russians has been entrusted with the honorary mission to defend the Motherland, President Vladimir Putin said in a talk with Heroes of Russia in the Kremlin on Sunday.

"This is how the fate has made it and this is how God has wanted it, if we can say so: such a complex but honorable mission - to defend the Motherland - has fallen on your shoulders," the Russian leader said.

The current generation of Russians has received the country in its integral state thanks to the efforts of their predecessors and they continue worthily defending the Motherland, he said.

"No one even knows how many unknown soldiers there were. Thanks to their efforts, their courage and their very hard labor on the front, we have Russia today together with you and defend it. And you do it worthily. You and I can feel no shame before our fathers, our ancestors. We are fighting for the Motherland and we will do everything to pass it on to future generations, our children and grandchildren," the head of state stressed.
