Russian Ambassador Alexander Darchiev arrives in US — TASS source

In early March, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Alexander Darchiev

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador to Washington Alexander Darchiev has arrived in the United States, a source told TASS.

"The ambassador has arrived in the United States," the source said.

In early March, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Darchiev, who until recently headed the Russian Foreign Ministry's North Atlantic Department, as Russia's ambassador to Washington.

At the first round of talks in Riyadh on February 18, Russia and the United States agreed to expedite the appointment of new ambassadors. Washington gave its approval to appoint Darchiyev as the next Russian ambassador following another round of bilateral talks held in Istanbul on February 27. The move came as Russia and the United States resumed a dialogue on restoring relations, which Moscow has said is primarily aimed at a return to full diplomatic work.

Russia's previous ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, ended his tenure in October.
