Over 1.4 mln voters take part in early balloting in Russian presidential election

MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. Over 1.4 mln voters across 39 Russian regions have cast their ballots in early voting in the country’s presidential election, Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairperson Ella Pamfilova said at a commission meeting.

"As of 10:00 a.m. Moscow time (7:00 a.m. GMT) on March 11, a total of 1,419,396 citizens had cast their ballots in early voting in 39 Russian regions. As many as 1,396,062 of them voted at polling stations established in hard-to-reach and remote areas, while 23,334 people cast their ballots aboard ships that will be at sea on the days of the election," she specified.

Pamfilova pointed out that the early voting was taking place from February 25 to March 14 in hard-to-reach and remote areas, aboard ships expected to be at sea on the designated election days and at military bases located far from population centers.

"It seems that the total number of voters is not that big but, in fact, as we have been saying, each and every voter matters for us regardless of where he or she resides, and our colleagues will get to wherever our voters are," the CEC chairperson stressed.

The Federation Council (upper house of parliament) formally designated March 17, 2024, as the date of Russia’s presidential election. The vote will take place on March 15-17, 2024, making it the first ever three-day presidential election in Russian history.
