MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. The West exerts direct pressure on Indonesia to engage in discussion with Russia, but the country refuses to give in, Russia’s ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobyova said in an interview with TASS.
"The pressure on Indonesia, of course, comes from our Western ‘partners’. This was particularly obvious during Indonesia's presidency of both the G20 and ASEAN. We must give credit to our Indonesian allies for not succumbing to this pressure and successfully holding the chairmanship," the diplomat said.
As the ambassador stated, Russia is in close communication with Indonesian partners, and collaboration is progressing positively, "despite the pressure that comes not only on Indonesia, but on all countries that cooperate with Russia, from promises to direct threats."
Russia is also willing to consider Indonesia's recommendations for resolving the Ukrainian conflict, she noted. "We respect such proposals and are willing to evaluate them. But this is not the problem, it’s the position of our Ukrainian ‘partners’ and their Western sponsors," she added, responding to a question on whether Russia supports Indonesia's effort to become a mediator in the Ukrainian crisis.
Vorobyova noted that Indonesia, like the majority of countries in the Asia-Pacific region, is prepared to listen and hear Russia.
