Moscow working to open embassies in DPR, LPR, Russian diplomat says

Corresponding agreements are being made, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov noted

MOSCOW, April 20. /TASS/. Moscow has been going on with its efforts to open embassies in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov said on Wednesday.

"I won’t give you the exact timing [for opening the embassies], but work is being done, and corresponding agreements are being made," he said.

On February 22, in line with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decree, Russia’s Foreign Ministry exchanged notes with the corresponding bodies in the DPR and LPR, and it was agreed to establish diplomatic contacts between Russia and each of the republics at embassy level, effective from that date. On February 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed opening diplomatic offices of the DPR and LPR in Moscow, as well as Russian diplomatic missions in Donetsk and Lugansk with DPR First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Peresada and LPR Foreign Minister Vladislav Deinego.
