MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. The provocations that the West is staging to exacerbate the situation inside Belarus undermine Minsk’s ability to shut down an influx of illegal migrants, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
"It is impossible not to see the obvious," the Russian diplomat pointed out.
"Western countries are intentionally provoking the aggravation of the internal political situation in Belarus and the Belarusian law-enforcement agencies have to concentrate their limited resources on the tasks of ensuring internal stability amid increased external pressure and security threats that have increased substantially inside the country," the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
As the Russian diplomat pointed out, "instead of carrying out disruptive activity," the EU states "should address the worrisome issues of fighting illegal migration in contacts with the Belarusian authorities that have repeatedly stated their readiness for interaction."
"Incidentally," as the Russian diplomat added, "the Belarusian side has been offering the European Union since April this year to hold consultations on the issues of illegal migration but the EU has responded with its refusal."
The EU countries bordering on Belarus continue actively interfering in the republic’s internal affairs, refusing to recognize its official authorities and interact with them while urging Minsk somehow to respond to the situation that has emerged, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
"This looks like a vicious circle," the Russian diplomat said. "Those from the West who would want to break it will, perhaps, display their best analytical qualities," the diplomat said.
