Apple, Google ‘caught red-handed’ violating Russian law on elections — lawmaker

According to the Russian lower house lawmaker, the West "received a clear signal," saying that the use of digital platforms to interfere in Russian elections is unacceptable

Apple and Google have been practically "caught red-handed" breaching the Russian national legislation about elections, a clear signal has been communicated to the West that the use of IT platforms is unacceptable to meddle in Russian elections, Russian lower house lawmaker Vasily Piskarev said to comment on the discussion about actions of IT companies held in the Russian upper house of parliament.

"Both corporations have been practically caught red-handed spreading election campaign materials that were not paid for from election funds which were particularly created abroad in violation of law," Piskarev said.

According to him, the West "received a clear signal," saying that the use of digital platforms to interfere in Russian elections is unacceptable.
