India receives over 180,000 tonnes of fertilizers from Russia in May — radio

India is the world’s second-biggest importer of fertilizers after China

NEW DELHI, May 24. /TASS/. India has received around 182,000 tonnes of fertilizers from Russia this month, the Radio of India reported on Tuesday.

Three vessels delivering 116,000 tonnes of nitrogenous, phosphate and potash fertilizers and 66,000 tonnes of ammonium dibasic phosphate from Russia have arrived in India, according to the report. In 2022 before February 24, when Moscow’s special military operation in Ukraine started, and later India received 360,000 tonnes of fertilizers from Russia.

"We are confident that we will continue increasing import of fertilizers from Russia thanks to the mechanism of paying for such supplies in national currency, which is being created. It suggests settlements on purchases of Russian fertilizers in rupees and export to Russia of Indian goods, including tea, rice and medications, worth the same amount," according to the Radio of India’s source.

India is the world’s second-biggest importer of fertilizers after China. The republic purchases four types of fertilizers abroad, including urea, ammonium dibasic phosphate, potassium chloride, as well as nitrogenous, phosphate and potash fertilizers. India’s demand for potassium is fully satisfied by imports from Russia and Belarus.
