MOSCOW, May 22. /TASS/. The reactor vessel for Unit 2 has been delivered to the construction site of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Egypt, being built by Rosatom, the state corporation's press service reported.
"The vessel Alexander Udalov arrived at the specialized port of the El Dabaa NPP construction site carrying large-scale equipment for Units 1 and 2. The shipment included the VVER-1200 reactor pressure vessel for Unit 2, as well as four steam generators and a pressurizer for Unit 1. The total weight of the cargo was approximately 2,000 tonnes, with the reactor vessel alone weighing about 333 tonnes," the statement said.
According to Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, the equipment is essential for transitioning to commissioning operations at Unit 1 and for reaching the peak construction phase at Unit 2.
"The growing portfolio of international NPP construction orders has enabled Rosatom to shift to the serial production of nuclear equipment. The steady performance of our machine builders allows us to prepare for even larger-scale construction of new power units, both under our international program and within the national master plan," Likhachev was quoted as saying.
El Dabaa is Egypt's first nuclear power plant, being constructed by Rosatom in the Matrouh Governorate on the Mediterranean coast. The plant will consist of four units with a capacity of 1,200 MW each, equipped with Russian-designed VVER-1200 Generation III+ reactors. This latest technology is already successfully operating at reference plants. The project is being implemented under a package of contracts that came into force on December 11, 2017.
