DUBAI, February 5. /TASS/. Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry, formed by the ruling Taliban radical movement (outlawed in Russia), has accused US President Donald Trump of violating the norms of international law.
The diplomatic agency was referring to the US leader’s remarks on Washington establishing control over the Gaza Strip and relocating its Palestinian residents to Arab countries.
"The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan considers the recent statements by the president of the United States regarding the forced displacement of Palestinians and their relocation to other countries as a blatant violation of international law. Gaza is an integral part of Palestinian territory, and no one else holds the authority to determine the fate of its people," the ministry said in a statement on the X social network. It noted that such rhetoric will only destabilize the situation in the region. The Taliban urged "influential nations and bodies advocating for justice worldwide to adopt a unified, pragmatic and timely position" against the plans voiced by the US leader.
On February 4, Trump said at a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following their talks at the White House that the US was considering taking control of the Gaza Strip to ensure peace in the Middle East. Additionally, he proposed resettling Palestinians from the enclave to other countries in the region, and having these countries pay for the relocation, according to the US president. Trump also pointed out that the US is ready to send its troops to Gaza if need be.
After the Biden administration had announced the end of Washington’s 20-year-long military operation in Afghanistan and the launch of its troop pullout in the spring of 2021, the Taliban embarked on an offensive against Afghan government forces.
On August 15, 2021, Taliban fighters swept into Kabul without encountering any resistance, and gained full control over the Afghan capital within a few hours. On September 6, 2021, the Taliban declared a complete victory in Afghanistan and on September 7, formed an interim government.
