MOSCOW, January 25. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s statement about Kiev’s offer to conclude a non-aggression pact with Minsk makes it clear that no such documents can be signed with Ukraine, the Lugansk People’s Republic’s former Ambassador to Moscow Rodion Miroshnik told TASS.
Lukashenko said on Tuesday that Ukraine had asked Belarus to conclude a non-aggression pact. He added, however, that the Zelensky regime continued to train militants posing a potential threat to the national security of Belarus.
"The fact that Alexander Lukahsneko made it public speaks for itself, making it clear that there are no plans to sign any pacts with a country that’s not independent and has no habit of implementing obligations," Miroshnik said, stressing that Ukraine would not abide by any document of that sort.
He pointed out that Kiev had addressed its proposal to Lukashenko, while the Ukrainian authorities had not recognized the results of the 2020 presidential election in Belarus.
"The very use of the ‘non-aggression pact’ word combination creates bad associations. A similar story ended badly in the past, when one of the parties had failed to fulfill its obligations. Clearly, Ukraine seeks a pact for the same reason as Hitler did in 1939. They do need to concentrate their forces along the Donbass and Zaporozhye frontlines and they don’t want to put a freeze on the 20,000 troops they say they have near the Belarusian border," Miroshnik noted.
