Minsk, Moscow to do their best to gain independence from West — Belarusian MFA

Sergey Aleinik said "all sanctions seek to do as much damage as possible" to the people of the two countries and "create as much discomfort as possible" for them

MINSK, January 19. /TASS/. Minsk and Moscow will do everything possible to become independent from the irresponsible actions of the West, Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergey Aleinik said on Thursday.

"The past year has showed that any damage can be brought to a minimum by tighter cooperation and integration [of Belarus and Russia]. We will do everything possible to become even more resilient and independent from the irresponsible decisions of Western politicians in the future," he said at a news conference following a joint meeting of senior officials from the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries.

Aleinik said "all sanctions seek to do as much damage as possible" to the people of the two countries and "create as much discomfort as possible" for them.

Earlier, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said that the intensification of relations between Minsk and Moscow, "interest in maintaining the necessary dynamics and intensifying bilateral relations, promptly developing coordinated approaches to countering the rabid external pressure" will help to resist the "insane sanctions" of the West that seek to crush the two countries.
