YAKUTSK, April 7. /TASS/. The 5th Northern Sustainable Development Forum, planned for November in Yakutsk, will focus on life support of Arctic towns and settlements, the Forum's Executive Director Vladimir Vasilyev said on Thursday.
"This year, we have suggested running the 5th Northern Sustainable Development Forum on November 7 - 10. The key topic would be the Arctic's resilience: regions, towns, communities - everything related to life support of Arctic towns, settlements, communities," he said.
The Northern Sustainable Development Forum has organized a working group on development of the Arctic tourism. The group features federal, regional and municipal experts from across the country. "Nowadays, many people are anxious to visit the Arctic - to drive there, to join an organized group. It is important to work with them, to make sure they are safe," he said, adding the working group would offer before end of the current year a concept to develop the Arctic tourism and further on would present it to the federal authorities.
Another plan is to organize at the forum a permanent platform jointly with the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The 4th Northern Sustainable Development Forum ran in Yakutsk from November 28 to December 1, 2022. The main topic was the development of traditional and alternative types of energy in the Arctic. The Northern Sustainable Development Forum is an annual international expert platform, which has permanently functioned since 2019, to discuss sustainable development of the North and the Arctic.
