US-backed Internet anonymity encourages hackers, says Russian security chief

MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. The anonymity of the Internet users supported by the United States contributes to the spread of computer viruses and the activities of cyber criminals, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev on said Friday after the meeting of the Security Council.

"The anonymity of the global information space, supported in every way by Washington, contributes to the uncontrolled spread of malicious software and the criminal activity of international cyber groups," Patrushev pointed out.

He added that hackers "financially motivated by Western countries" are increasingly involved in computer attacks to inflict economic and political damage on Russia.
