NEW YORK, February 26. /TASS/. Last year 129 journalists were killed around the world, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), marking the highest figure since CPJ began documenting cases in 1992, the report published on the NGO’s website said.
According to the document, at least 104 of the 129 journalists and media workers were killed amid conflicts in 2025, with 86 of those deaths attributed to the Israel Defense Forces. In 2024, amid the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, 85 employees of Palestinian media outlets lost their lives.
The CPJ report highlights a sharp increase in deaths caused by drones, rising from just two documented cases in 2023 to 39 in 2025.
According to CPJ data, 124 journalists were killed in 2024 overall. This marks the second consecutive year of rising fatalities.
