MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. The Milan 2026 major multilateral maritime exercise with the participation of Russia’s Pacific Fleet frigate The Marshal Shaposhnikov hosted by the Indian Navy, have concluded in India, the fleet’s press service reported.
"The Milan 2026 multinational naval exercise, in which the Russian Navy was represented by the crew of the Pacific Fleet frigate The Marshal Shaposhnikov, have concluded in the Republic of India," the statement reads.
The closing ceremony and summing up the exercise results took place aboard the Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The press service noted that the Russian frigate's crew during five days practiced joint maneuvering, naval combat, firing naval guns at sea and air targets, and anti-submarine operations as part of detachments of ships in the Bay of Bengal.
In addition, as part of the exercise, the ships crossed mine-infested areas, freed a simulated captured vessel, and conducted inspection operations while practicing civilian shipping safety measures. "Special attention was paid during the exercise to search and rescue support and joint actions to rescue those in distress at sea," the press service reported.
About the frigate
The Russian Navy frigate The Marshal Shaposhnikov arrived in Visakhapatnam early last week and took part in the International Fleet Review. Russian sailors also participated in a march-past marking the exercise opening. The naval phase of the maneuvers took place from February 21 to 25.
The Marshal Shaposhnikov was launched in January 1985 at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad as a Project 1155 large anti-submarine ship. In 2016, it underwent repairs and modernization at the Dalzavod Ship Repair Center in Vladivostok. After the modernization, the ship was reclassified as a frigate and equipped with advanced Kalibr-NK and Uran strike missile systems. The frigate returned to the Pacific Fleet after trials on April 27, 2021.
