Kiev’s allies do not have weapons, equipment for new counteroffensive — NYT

The article points out that Ukraine, "reliant on the West for weaponry and funding, faces short-term pressures that Russia does not"

NEW YORK, December 13. /TASS/. Kiev’s allies do not have equipment and weapons, necessary for a new counteroffensive, The New York Times reported, citing analysts and former US officials.

According to the NYT article, Kiev’s allies "don’t have the ammunition and equipment to arm another counteroffensive, making a major new campaign unlikely for most of 2024."

The article points out that Ukraine, "reliant on the West for weaponry and funding, faces short-term pressures that Russia does not." It underscores that Kiev "is struggling to obtain a sufficient flow of ammunition and weaponry from the West, where nations aren’t operating on a wartime footing and face significant production bottlenecks."

Ukraine requires US-made weapons, and bureaucratic delays in providing this aid do not contribute to the US’ leadership in the world, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said earlier, speaking at the US National Defense University ahead of the meeting with US President Joe Biden.

Starting on January 2024, the US Administration will lose the ability to hand over new weapons packages to Ukraine, should the US Congress refuse to approve supplementary funding for these purposes, according to US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

According to Sullivan, the US will be unable to send air defense systems to Ukraine, Ukraine will start running out of Patriot air defense ammunition, and similar situation will take place regarding 155-mm artillery shells.
