Azerbaijan’s CEC schedules snap presidential election for February 7

On December 7, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an executive order to hold an extraordinary presidential vote on February 7, 2024

BAKU, December 8. /TASS/. Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has set the date of the snap presidential election for February 7, 2024.

"The voting date has been set. The election will take place on February 7," Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mazakhir Panakhov said.

On December 7, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an executive order to hold an extraordinary presidential vote on February 7, 2024. Nothing was said about the reason behind this decision. The previous presidential election was held in Azerbaijani in April 2018 and the next regular election was to be held in October 2025. Under Azerbaijani law, the president is elected for a term of seven years.
